So it's been about 4 or 5 months since I've moved into my new house and for the most part it's been rather simple up until recently. The wasps in my place are no longer around (mainly because of the cold weather) and I did have that bird stuck in my wall, but aside from that I really haven't had much happen aside from me paying my bills.
However, within the last 10 days I've had problems around me non-stop. First, my pipes in the basement (being a crawl space with the walls made of rock slabs stuck together with cement) started to freeze over and to cut the explanation short, I managed to thaw them out. The downside is that while I thawed them out, apparently the hot water pipe leading to my kitchen had been rubbing against the "brick work" of the house and caused it to basically form a high pressure crack under pressure. While this is a leak, it's not pouring out gallons of water by the minute, it's more like a mist and it takes a while before there is even a small puddle of water.
Though a leak is still a leak and that pipe will have to be replaced, but it can't because the two main water valves (that allow water to flow into house or restrict it) one being in the basement and one outside covered underneath a manhole are both basically rusty. So that second water valve, being outside, is actually part of the city's property and we (me and my landlord) have come up with the plan to have the city replace that water valve outside, as that's the only way we'll be able to shut off the water to my house and replace the leaking pipe. Until that gets done (as we are still waiting on the city to get to work), I have to turn my hot water valve to "ON" every time I wanna use hot water and turn it off when I'm done, otherwise that pipe will start leaking. Funny thing is, because I'm considered in a city (that is the size of a city block), Whiting (the state I'm residing in) will actually have to have their water shut off by the city when they replace my water valve. So no one in the area will have any running water while they work on that.
So while I wait for that to be fixed and not a week later, on new years eve, I had another problem. My furnace, for some reason, shut off without any warning and for me the night of New Years Eve was incredibly cold as it dropped down to -11F (-23C). To cut another long story short, the problem was that a mouse or rat made its bedding within the actual furnace itself and chewed up one of the wires inside. This wire was left bare and it touched the metal interior of the furnace and basically short-circuited everything, keeping the furnace shut off and wouldn't turn on. So after having the wire replaced after calling a guy up to take a look at it, the furnace started running, it only took me, my dad, my landlord, his dad and this guy to figure out what the problem was and resolve it.
Now we're getting to the most recent of things, literally almost a week away from when all these issues started. I just finished working my first day at my job for the year of 2018, it was an ordinary Wednesday up until the point I left. When I left, I heard a "Bumpa-bumpa" sound that only grew increasingly worse as I got on the highway to head home (being really my only option). I pulled over and went around my car, inspecting the tires and saw that the front passenger tire was both flat and shredded. Now, I've never actually had to replace a flat tire before in the midst of driving, I actually didn't even have a jack lift to lift the car up to help me. So basically I had to call my parents at 2 AM on a Thursday morning and ask for help, about an hour later my dad showed up with a floor jack.
To make this very short and less confusing, we got the spare tire on but it also was flat and spare tires are NOT built like regular tires, they are so much thinner and smaller. Basically, it came down to having to leave it on the side of the highway while my dad took me home to let me get some rest and whatnot (which I really didn't get much given my mind was racing). The plan for this was that my dad would head back home and get a new tire and replace it with a new one. Basically the car was fixed and brought back to my place while I slept in my house (for only a few hours).
Honestly, it feels like I'm having the worse moment of my life in a very LONG time. Though it's basically been the most lively in perhaps years for me, but I would have preferred it done another way. I'm just hoping that this is last of it for at least some time because this seriously all happened not even 10 days ago, spread out like every 2 or 3 days.
